Liberon Pure Tung Oil

Liberon Pure Tung Oil is extremely resistant to water, food acids and alcohol. The Tung Oil provides your wooden surface with a hardwearing durable finish. It is ideal for everyday surfaces like kitchen worktops, tables and any high quality interior or exterior wood. Liberon Pure Tung Oil is a formulation of no added dryers which is strongly recommended for external oak in particular. The product is natural and non-toxic, giving it eco-friendly credentials.

Areas Of Use

Pure Tung Oil is suitable for children’s toys and objects which may be in contact with food, such as fruit bowls, chopping boards and wooden placemats etc. With it's non-toxic qualities, Liberon Tung Oil is suitable for use on nearly every wooden surface in your home. Being a grain-penetrating oil, the wood will age naturally and develop a natural patina.

Pure Tung Oil enhances the natural colour and characteristics of wood, giving the timber a slightly darker appearance whilst accentuating the grain. We recommended conducing a test area on an inconspicuous area of the wood to ensure you are happy with the final finish. You can test this by wetting a section of the wood with a clean damp cloth which will produce a similar effect.

Preparation

Before using the Tung Oil, ensure that the surface you are going to apply is stripped bare.

Remove any wax that may have been previously on the surface. We can recommend using Liberon Wax & Polish Remover, a high quality product that removes waxes, dirt, grime and everyday uses.

If you are wanting to oil a surface which has previously had a varnish, we can recommend Liberon Fine Wood Stripper, which can be used on wood or metal, without harming the original character of the surface.

Before applying the oil, ensure the area is free from any large cracks and holes which could effect the final finished result. we can recommend using Liberon Wood Filler. This product comes in 4 different colours to help match the colour of your wood.

After sanding ensure there is no dust left behind to maximise the end result.

A wet surface will be an indication of what the final colour could look like by bringing out the natural colours of timber. Always test the product out first on a small area before applying the product fully to see what the final result could look like.

This product is extracted from nuts and may cause an allergic reaction.

Application

The application is ready to use, shake well before using.

Apply Pure Tung Oil using a Brush or a lint-free cloth.

For better application, dilute the mixture of the first one or two coats with up to 50% white spirit.

Allow the Tung Oil to penetrate the wood between 20 – 30 minutes, wipe off any excess oil using a clean lint-free cloth.

Allow the oil to fuse with the wood for 24 hours before applying another coat.

Apply additional coats of Pure Tung Oil in the procedure listed above.

Slowly reduce the amount of white spirit used with subsequent coats.

For the best Liberon results, we can recommend using Liberon Steel Wool Grade 0000 to gently rub between each coat.

After the final coat has been applied, again any excess oil has to be removed and left for 24 hours.

Wipe the surface over again to aid drying and remove any excess oil that may have been surfaced in the drying process.

Overall its recommended to apply at least 4 coats of Liberon Pure Tung Oil. More coats may need to be applied for porous or external surfaces to maximise results.

To improve the finish, you can apply Wax Polish Black Bison for an improved lustre.

Aftercare

Liberon Pure Tung Oil must be maintained and managed on a regular basis to ensure the quality, protection and finish remains the same as you first applied it.

Apply at least once or twice a year or more if required in areas which may have more traffic and general wear and tear. Also re-apply coats depending on how exposed the area of the wood is to weather.

With exposed external timber is it important to apply sufficient coats of Tung Oil to give initial and the correct protection.

Store Tung Oil in conditions above 5 °C.

Always replace and take care of the lid otherwise the oil can deteriorate overtime.

Oils can be flammable and can self-combust if exposed to certain conditions and elements. Before discarding any cloths, lay them flat outside to dry naturally to avoid any potential fire hazards.
