Waterborne 1-component polyurethane primer for sports flooring.

Please note: this product is now discontinued. See Bona SuperSport Primer.

Bona Sportive Primer is specially developed for untreated wooden sports floors. With an excellent bond to the wood and side-bonding reducing properties, it sustains a good foundation for further applications of Sportive Finish.

It is based on a pure polyurethane dispersion derived from natural vegetable oils making it very strong and easy to abrade. Its low vapour permeability has a calming effect on the wood and reduces the effects from sudden changes of climate in the hall.

  • To be used in conjunction with Bona Sportive Finish
  • Medium rich wood colouration
  • Excellent abrasion properties
  • Reduces potential for side-bonding
  • NMP and NEP free  VOC 2010 compliant

Preparations

Ensure floor is acclimatised to its end-use environment. Surface to be coated must be sanded back to bare wood, dry and free from sanding dust, oil, wax and other contamination. A Bona Sanding Disc or Screen grit 120 should be used for the final sanding of the wood.

Allow varnish to reach room temperature, insert filter and shake the container thoroughly before use. Optimal application conditions are between 18-25C and 40- 60% relative air humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten drying time, low temperatures and high humidity lengthen the drying time. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Minimum temperature for use is 13C.

Application

  1. Apply an even coat of Bona Sportive Primer using a Bona Applicator Bar or a Bona Roller. Care should be taken to achieve a uniform level of timber saturation to avoid timber colour variation. Always maintain a ‘wet edge’ to avoid overlaps.
  2. Allow to dry and apply a layer of Bona Sportive Finish.

Note: If Bona Sportive Primer has been allowed more than 24 hours drying time then an intermediate sanding is always required before applying further coats of varnish.

Maintenance

Bona Sportive Primer should never be used as the final treatment for timber floors.
