Bona Natural Primer is designed to preserve the look of raw wood

Bona's highly forgiving formulation is designed for easy roller application, and is quick to dry with good abrasion qualities. Bona Natural primer is designed to help retain the natural appearance of unfinished wood which is preferable in Scandinavian and Country style interiors. Overcoat with Bona Traffic Natural for a truly natural 'unfinished' look whilst achieving a highly durable surface.

Areas Of Use

Bona Natural is ideal for interior floor surfaces such as solid wood like oak, mahogany, teak, acacia, ash and walnut, as well as engineered wood floors. The final colour of Bona Natural primer is strongly connected to the wood species it is applied to. The same type of wood may also contain varying degrees of tannic acid and other naturally occurring substances that affect the colouration. Bona Natural primer can be applied in one or two layers depending on the desired look. The more coats, the lighter/whiter the appearance. If unsure, test to ensure satisfactory colouration prior to use. To optimise the natural characteristics of the floor it is recommended to overcoat using Bona Traffic Natural.

Preparation

Ensure floor is acclimatised to its end-use environment. The surface which is to be treated must be sanded back to bare wood, dry and free from sanding dust, oil, wax and other contamination. It is recommended to finalise the sanding with a Multi Disc.

Allow product to reach room temperature. Optimal application conditions are between 18–25°C and 30–60% relative air humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten drying time; low temperatures and high humidity lengthen drying time. Minimum temperature for use is 13°C.

Application

Shake container thoroughly before use and insert the supplied filter. Pour finish into the supplied container (box + bag). It is recommended to pour through an external strainer so as to minimize the potential for lumps.

Apply Bona Natural using a Bona Roller (microfiber/fleece) at approx. 12 m²/lit (83 g/m²), avoiding accumulation of product.
When dry (approx. 2–3 hours), abrade to reduce grain raise using the Bona Scrad system or a sanding screen grit 150 or finer.

Remove all dust

Apply an additional layer of Prime Natural before sealing the surface with one of Bona’s protective lacquers.

Best Practice:

  • Start the application by stroking the roller along the room’s edge, going wall to wall, along the grain of the wood. Use a brush to reach all the way out to the edge.
  • Smooth the brush application with the roller
  • Stroke once again with the roller, wall to wall, but leave a small space between the previous roller strokes
  • Close and smooth out the gap on your return
  • Repeat in the same manner until the entire floor has been treated

Aftercare

Bona Natural should never be used as the final treatment for timber floors.
