In preparation for using Liberon Superior Danish Oil, its advised you follow the procedures to ensure that you are left with the results you intend to execute.
Interior woodwork, it’s important that the surface is stripped to the bare wood. Ensure that the area you are going to work on is clean, dry and dust/dirt free before oiling.
Exterior woodwork, again with the same procedure, ensure the area you are working on is clean, dry and dirt free. In the presence of decaying timber, ensure greying wood or mould is completely removed before the application process, if not removed correctly may result in blackening of the timber.
Any imperfections in the wood? Then you can use Liberon Wood Filler to fill in cracks and gaps you may have.
If you are looking to stain the wood, we recommend using Liberon Palette Wood Dye.
Here at AllFinishes we take health and safety seriously and recommend you use the correct protection for the job. Disregarding safety equipment can be damaging and result in long term health conditions. Please check out our Moldex range for high quality respirators and hearing protection.
For interior woodwork, apply the Superior Danish Oil using a brush or lint-free cloth. Allow the oil to penetrate the surface area for 5 – 10 minutes before removing any access oil with a lint-free cloth. Allow the oil to dry for a minimum of 5 hours, and apply additional coats after each time period. It’s recommend to apply 3 coats in the oiling process. In areas of the household, places like kitchens and bathrooms, may need extra coats to help protect the wood further.
In the application of exterior woodwork, apply the process as stated above, but higher exposed areas will require more coats than recommended to withhold the protection and finish you want. With Superior Danish Oil, it is not necessary to remove any visible excess on sawn timber, but do wipe off any drips/runs.
It’s important to recognise that oil finishes are designed to bring out the natural characteristics of timber. To indicate the final colour of the wood, the surface will appear to be wet. It’s always recommended to test a sample area of cut off piece of wood with the Oil to distinguish whether that the oil is the right finish for the end result
If the excess oil is not removed correctly, it may cause the surface to become unpleasantly sticky.
Superior Danish Oil is not designed for external oak. If you need to oil for this specie of wood, then the option is it use ‘Liberon Pure Tung Oil’.
Any cleaning and maintenance to the woodwork area may need be cleaned with a damp lint-free cloth, and any liquid spillage should be immediately removed from the surfaces. For any extreme stubborn stains, its suggested to use a mild detergent.
It’s recommended to re-oil your woodwork around once a year or more, depending on the usage of that piece of furniture or wooden area.
In cases of exterior wooden surfaces, like when you apply the oil first time, the area must be cleaned down from any natural elements that may have attached itself before applying any new coats.
Superior Danish Oil may react with some timbers and cause blackening on some external areas. If you are unsure about applying this product to your external timber, contact your timber supplier for more information on how Superior Danish Oil will behave on your wood.
After using the Danish Oil, store it in a temperature above 5°C and always replace the lid after use. If not followed the oil within may deteriorate overtime and not be suitable for using further down the line.
Oils can be flammable and can self-combust if exposed to certain conditions and elements. Before discarding any cloths, lay them flat outside to dry naturally to avoid any potential fire hazards.
